Tribe of Light

Tribe of Light

This antique dress has a long long long history, so I will be brief. If you are interested in further details of this exquisite, museum-quality dress, please email me for details.

Bought from the owner of KOCHEE (sadly dismantled) in downtown Toronto. I paid a small fortune for it. I am selling it for a small fraction of what I paid. She told me it was a museum quality dress, and she was torn between keeping it displayed on her store wall, or selling it to a museum. She had just come back from her favorite area of India, and bought it from her favored tribe of women, who call themselves the “Tribe of Light”. They call themselves this because they see themselves as modern – the women earn their own living, making and selling their exquisite clothing and embroidery. They brought the front zipper detail to her attention – they were very excited about this daring and modern detail. They apologized for the many different fabrics int his dress, saying they didn’t have enough of one material. That is exactly what I love about it. It is a crazy patchwork of beautiful old fabrics.
