The Bootleg Collection: Untitled (Wedding Tuxedo) by Nathalie Sanchez

My garment is a wedding suit worn in reverse and made of pages from three library-withdrawn children’s books, And Tango Makes Three. And Tango Makes Three is a banned-book based on the true story of two male chinstrap penguins, Roy and Silo, in New York’s Central Park Zoo who fell in love and raised a female hatchling named Tango. Though winning many awards, this book continues to top the list of The American Library Association’s most challenged books since its debut in 2006. Centering on the issue of same-sex marriage, I chose to use the pages of this book to create a tuxedo-like garment fit for a wedding.
