I bought these pants for Movie Guy because he is just your everyday cargo-pant-wearing-weed-smoking-pony-tail- growing-skateboard-riding-investment banker..he wears ‘em when we go to the ballgame, he wears ‘em when we go to synagogue on Saturday..his counter-culture mentality is somewhat pervasive but (hey, I said pervasive not perverted) I still wear a dress to synagogue..I can’t erase the idea that somehow somewhere my Mommy is clicking her tongue should I decide to show up to synagogue in shorts. But he has these dang pants and he refuses to break in a new pair. Evidently there’s a whole process he puts the pants through before they touch his butt…to be honest, there was a whole process he put me through before he let me as well..

The dress also has provenance, and we know that it was handed down through a prominent New York military family, and was worn by Cora Belle Glover(1869-1956), the wife of Major General Elmore Farrington Austin. They are direct descendants of Henry Adams, who is the great great grandfather of John Adams II, the second President of the United States.

I had my wedding dressing cleaned and preserved after my wedding day in 1984 and never opened the box until my 22nd anniversary which was in 2006. To my surprise, the dress in the box was not mine! I contacted the local newspaper and it became quite a cute story both in the paper and on the local news station. However, I never did get my own dress back.

We have taken a very large consignment of clothing from the estate of a socialite who split her time between Park Avenue, where she spent a great deal of time and money at Martha, and Sarasota….The woman obviously had a lady’s maid as there is tissue pinned to all the hangers, most of which are fancy.

I think you will enjoy the story. This dress or one just like it was in the Neiman Marcus Chirstmas Catalog in the early 1970’s. I found it and ask for it for Christmas. I wore it for several years whenever there was a party. I finally gave it away, and had not thought of it for years, when I found it at a Dallas Estate SAle, not sure if it is the same dress or not, but it is one just like it.
