After you’ve been married for a few years (3 years March 19th!), your husband starts to tolerate things less and less. Like the six crates of vintage goodies collected over 17 years, currently stacked in the garage where a CAR should be. A former jazz singer and swing dancer, I’ve enlisted the help of my busty mannequin friends to sell the gowns, lindy hop attire, shoes, and ephemera I can bear to part with.
This purse was handmade by a son for his Mother on her birthday in 1965.
It is inscribed under the flap(”TO “MOM” ON HER BIRTHDAY, JUNE 17, 1965: By R.C.C.). The person who made it is close to 80 now so you can imagine the rest of the story. His mother died and he again gained the purse. We met him selling at the swap meet and he took a liking to Karen, who is Kano of kanoskorner and gave her the purse not having a use for it any longer. Last October Kano died and although I would kind of like to keep it, I am selling the purse to pay some bills.
My father sent this as a gift to my mother when he went first returned to China before WWII.
Provenance
My grandfather, Julean H. Arnold, from 1902 and until his retirement in 1940 devoted himself to China and U.S. relations.
Father, Harrison Arnold, was born in China on October 30, 1909 and after graduating college returned there working for Ford Motor Company’s export division.
My father’s brother, Julean Arnold - yes the same name as grandfather without the middle name - was born in China in 1915 and devoted more than 20 years to the U.S. State department and served in Brazil, Paris, and Saigon.
Mom and Dad traveled to China in 1950 and after their return to Hawaii, I was born in April of 1951.
Up for bid is an extremely rare Metallica concert T-shirt from 1986. This shirt was purchased on cliff’s last tour before his tragic death. This item has a great deal of sentimental value and is close to impossible to find.
These are very nice Cartier glasses!! I recieve compliments on them everytime I wear them out. Especially when wearing them with a nice suit. There is a very small chip on them by the nose peice, but noone could ever tell unless they are in your intimate space. I hate to let them go, but I’m in need of money at the moment.
P.S- Whoever gets them please take care of them like a new born baby. I guess you can say that I have a sentimental value for them.

A very Vintage 1950’s (I believe) custom made by SWIFT, Ltd of San Francisco gray felt Fedora with a DOBBS FIFTH AVENUE NY hat box. This hat & box belonged to my great uncle. The inner leather band is embossed in gold with his initials E.C.J. There is a size tag that reads…. 7 3-8 Custom made. The crown is lined in satin & is obviously a very expensive hat. It’s in great condition considering it’s age. It’s been stored away from light in this Dobbs hat box for decades.

This enchanting 1840-1850 changeable silk gown was once worn by Dorthea Smith. The museum tag identifies the original ownership. The tag is also dated 1824 but this is a later period gown because of the style.
I danced in this professionally at a high-end restaurant a dozen times, at most. I have made minor sewing adjustments to ensure stability while dancing. The bra top will fit a maximum size 36DD (my size). My sister, who is pictured, wears a 36C.
In the early 1960’s and 1970’s the company, North Beach Leather became world famous with the works they created through their designers to Stars such as Elvis Presley, Jimmie Hendrix, John Lennon, Sammy Davis Jr, Stevie Wonder, Santana and the list goes on.The Designers that created and worked through this company have continued on to fame and are some of the best leather and fashion designers of our time. These designers include Bill Morgan, Michael Hoban, Robert Warner, Burray Olson and Articulo Arocha from the town of Pitiquito, Sonora, Mexico where some of the best leather works in the world are made.
The original owners of this very special out fit would be hard to determine since it was a recent purchase from a shop in Boquete, Panama. This was a very exciting find for me since I am from San Francisco and worked for a short stint in the North Beach workshop in the 70’s. It has brought back many memories and curiousity about what ever happened to this company which was an icon of our Era. I feel very fortunate to have had an association with some of these great artists!!!!
